This is the first summer that I grew my own vegetable garden starting from seeds. I also grew blueberry bushes and strawberries but since they need alot of water I kept them in planters so it can have a continuous flow. With the very hot weather and this heat wave we are having these plants need a ton of water to keep the soil and roots moist.
Up-Magic Plant Watering Spikes are a great was to continuously water both indoor and outdoor potted plants, each order comes with four ceramic spikes. They work by attatching a bottle of water to the screw top and flipping it upside down, the water then flows through the ceramic into the soil in a slow yet consistent manner.
The hardest part about using these spikes is finding a bottle that securley fits into the threaded top. In order for the water to flow through correctly only certain bottles work. It took alot of time and trial and error, but I finally found a match. The bottle from Smartwater works well, when I finally found the right match i put it to the test. I filled the bottle and screwed it securely on, I then realized the water was not flowing through the ceramic fast enough to keep the soil moist. I had a few holes in the bottom of the bottle to make the flow go through faster and it worked alot better.
These stakes are good to use for all kinds of plants that are in pots or planters. If you purchase these and are giing away, I would recommend testing the water flow out prior for a few days. I personally think they should be made to fit a regular 2 liter soda bottle that is easy accessible or come with bottles that can be used. It was alot of work trying to match these grooves up.
